iQOO executive admits that the Neo 9 Pro prioritizes camera quality above lens count as launch draws near

The Neo 9 Pro’s Sony IMX920 sensor, VCS color grading, and AI night mode are examples of how iQOO prioritizes camera quality. It promises improved performance with fewer cameras.

The iQOO Neo 9 Pro is a performance-focused mid-range smartphone that the business is preparing to introduce, and it is highlighting its photographic skills. With many cellphones in this price range, this isn’t the case. Shankar Singh Chauhan, product manager of iQOO India, was contacted by IndianExpress.com to learn more about the Neo 9 Pro’s photography capabilities.

“Compared to its predecessor, we have a significant improvement in the iQOO Neo 9 Pro’s camera performance this time around, especially in the main camera, which now uses the Sony IMX920 sensor, a sensor used on the flagship Vivo X100,” Chauhan stated. Additionally, he declared that the iQOO Neo 9 Pro would cost less than Rs 40,000, making it one of the nation’s most reasonably priced smartphones with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.

When asked why the iQOO Neo 9 Pro has fewer cameras compared to its predecessor, Chauhan said, “according to the feedback we received, consumers didn’t want more low-quality cameras like the 2 MP macro. Hence, this time, we have reduced both the size of the camera module and the number of cameras, and the iQOO Neo 9 Pro only includes a main camera and an ultra-wide-angle lens.” Last year’s iQOO Neo 7 Pro had a triple camera setup with a 2 MP macro lens.

Speaking about some of the standout camera features of the iQOO Neo 9 Pro, the representative emphasized that Vivo’s VCS color grading technology, which lowers noise and produces more natural-looking colors, is one of the hardware and software camera advancements included with the smartphone. Additionally, the device boasts an AI-powered night mode that makes it easier to snap crisper skies even in dimly lit environments.

Following some time spent evaluating the iQOO Neo 9 Pro, below are some samples of the camera:

Chauhan said, “With its dedicated Supercomputing Chip Q1, the iQOO Neo 9 Pro offers gaming experiences like 144 frames per second (fps) through the use of game frame interpolation on certain games, as well as 900p gaming resolution enhancements.”

The newly released OnePlus 12R (review), which is also built on the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, is one of the smartphones that the iQOO Neo 9 Pro will take on when it launches in India on February 22. Amazon is now accepting preorders for the iQOO Neo 9 Pro, and the listing guarantees that the smartphone will come in at least two color options.

The Sony IMX920 sensor-powered primary camera, dual-tone design, 5,160 mAh battery with 120W fast charging capability, 6.78-inch FHD+ 144Hz LTPO display with up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness, and up to 12 GB of RAM with 256 GB of internal storage are some of the other notable features of the iQOO Neo 9 Pro.
